What is the

Método Benozzi®?

It is the first pharmacological treatment for presbyopia and the only one patented worldwide. This treatment restores the accommodation lost due to presbyopia, allowing patients to forgo the use of glasses and avoid surgeries. The prescription is personalized and must be administered by a trained ophthalmologist.

The Método Benozzi® involves the daily application of eye drops prescribed by the treating physician.

LET'S TALK

ABOUT PRESBYOPIA

Presbyopia, or tired vision, is the result of the loss of the eye’s ability to accommodate, affecting both men and women equally from the fourth decade of life. It is a physiological aging process in which the ability to clearly focus on nearby objects gradually decreases.

Accommodation is what allows us to see objects clearly, thanks to the ciliary muscle that changes the shape of the lens and increases the optical power of the eye. This ability begins to decline around the age of 40, causing nearby objects to appear blurry and out of focus.

Treatments for presbyopia

Historically, presbyopia has been corrected with glasses, contact lenses, and in recent years, surgical techniques with varying results. Today, the Método Benozzi® physiologically restores accommodation through the use of ophthalmic eye drops, allowing clear focus at all distances without the need for glasses and/or surgery.

I turned to the Método Benozzi® in search of stopping the dependence on glasses, and I achieved it. It has been a little over 6 years since I completely forgot about them, and I experience it as a liberation. Thank you!!

No need for many words… For someone who wears glasses, you can imagine the comfort and practicality of not using them. I feel the freedom of not being chained to them.

Great, very good results! The biggest change in my life was the ability to maintain natural vision.

History of the Método Benozzi®

Since his early education in Belgium, Dr. Jorge Benozzi has been dedicated to research, primarily focusing on glaucoma, publishing numerous medical research articles over the years.

Although the idea of a pharmacological treatment for presbyopia was still distant, this formative experience was what opened the doors to a new treatment.

At that time, although it may be hard to believe, there were already medications that could treat presbyopia, but they were being used for other diseases.

Almost 20 years later, when Dr. Benozzi began experiencing issues with near vision himself, it occurred to him that perhaps the drug he had been using for years to treat another condition (which improved near vision but worsened distance and mid-range vision) could be the solution…

Answers to frequently asked questions

The Método Benozzi® is not applicable to everyone; each case must be individually evaluated to determine the most suitable treatment for each patient and whether they can undergo pharmacological treatment for presbyopia. In general, the Método Benozzi® can be used by healthy patients with presbyopia (usually over 40 years old), even if associated with other refractive conditions such as Farsightedness (hyperopia), myopia, and astigmatism.

Patients who cannot use the Método Benozzi® are those who have undergone cataract surgery and all those with other eye diseases that impair vision due to causes other than loss of accommodation, such as maculopathy, retinopathy, retinal detachment, retinal and corneal abnormalities, neuropathies, etc. All patients must be evaluated beforehand by a trained ophthalmologist to detect possible contraindications for pharmacological treatment for presbyopia.

The Método Benozzi® is not contraindicated if the surgery performed did not compromise the lens or retina. Patients who have undergone hyperopia, myopia, and/or astigmatism surgery can treat their presbyopia with the Método Benozzi® pharmacological treatment. All patients must be evaluated beforehand by a trained ophthalmologist to determine the most suitable treatment for each case and whether pharmacological treatment for presbyopia is possible.

It depends on the type of surgery performed. If the surgery involved the removal of the lens and the placement of an intraocular lens, you cannot use the Método Benozzi®. However, if the surgery was done with laser and without placing a lens inside the eye, then pharmacological treatment for presbyopia would be possible. All patients must be evaluated beforehand by a trained ophthalmologist to determine the most suitable treatment for each case and whether pharmacological treatment for presbyopia is possible.

The pharmacological treatment for presbyopia is effective only as long as no pathology that contraindicates the treatment appears or the lens becomes rigid and opaque (cataract), which could statistically occur from around 65 years old. Patients undergoing the Método Benozzi® must be periodically monitored by their ophthalmologist while they are on treatment.

The eye drops used for the pharmacological treatment of presbyopia must be prescribed by a trained ophthalmologist (not available over-the-counter) and can be purchased at pharmacies authorized by the Ministry of Public Health of Argentina for preparing ophthalmic prescriptions.

The Método Benozzi® is a reversible treatment and can be stopped without issues or sequelae that would prevent any other ophthalmological procedures. If the Método Benozzi® treatment is discontinued, the patient can return to their original glasses.

The eye drops used in the Método Benozzi® must be prescribed by a trained ophthalmologist who is knowledgeable about the procedure and its contraindications. If there is any contraindication or hypersensitivity to the drugs used, the doctor will diagnose it during the first consultation and will not prescribe the treatment.

The eye drops used for the pharmacological treatment of presbyopia must be prescribed by a trained ophthalmologist (not available over-the-counter) and can be purchased at pharmacies authorized by the Ministry of Public Health of Argentina for preparing ophthalmic prescriptions. The drugs used in the composition of the eye drops are approved by all health regulatory bodies in Argentina and worldwide.

The Método Benozzi® is coordinating with multinational laboratories for a global mass launch. From there, it will gain the recognition it deserves for such a groundbreaking discovery.
